Description

This easy seitan recipe is perfect for beginners. Use this seitan as a vegan meat substitute in stir-frys, gravies, soups, and sandwiches.

Ingredients

Dry ingredients:
1 1/2 cup gluten flour 200 g
2 tbsp chickpea flour
2 tbsp nutritional yeast
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tsp salt
1 tsp coarsely ground pepper
1 teaspoon fennel seeds
Wet ingredients:
3/4 cup cold water (190 mL)
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp of liquid smoke

Directions

In a large bowl, mix together the gluten flour, chickpea flour, nutritional yeast, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper and fennel seeds. Set aside.

In another bowl, combine the water, soy sauce, liquid smoke and ketchup.

Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well.

Form a ball and knead for 1 to 2 minutes.

Wrap the seitan in aluminum foil tie both ends.

Steam the seitan for 45 minutes.

Let cool in the refrigerator 2 hours before serving.
